My friend Eddy.

My friend Eddy.

A strange thing happened to me today. Complete synchronicity. I often find myself in ‘weird’ situations (perhaps, because I am slightly weird…) – but today’s sequence of events really blew my mind…. This afternoon, I arranged to go see the ‘Chuck Close’ exhibition at the MCA with my mum. I decided to ditch the bus and walk. I decided to stop off and buy contact lens solution. I decided to walk down the right hand…

when the lights go out….

when the lights go out….

They don't call it nightfall for nothing. Last night, I was stumbling for the light switch. My left foot got entangled in a ball of yarn and I went flying. I hit my upper leg against my dressing table. Hard. Now I have a large bruise. Not cool. If there had been light….I am sure I would not have face planted into the floor. My foot somehow got entangled with the base of my loom.…

50 shades of (blue) grey.

50 shades of (blue) grey.

50 Shades of grey. I wish I was referring to some hot and steamy summer love affair. Nope. Incorrect. And forget dating disaters (whilst I have had my fair share of those), of late I have been consistently facing a different type of 'disaster'. Dyeing disasters... Seriously, every time I do a load of washing, my clothes change into a varying shades of blue-grey. I refuse to refer to this blue-grey as a 'colour'. It does not deserve to be a colour. It is just a murky mess. A (gross) combination of blue, purple and grey.

Touch(ing) wood.

I enjoy touching wood….driftwood that is. Driftwood is wood that has been washed onto a shore or beach of a sea, lake, or river by the action of winds, tides or waves. Apart from shells and sea glass, driftwood is one of my favourite types of marine debris.  I am not sure why, but it really fascinates me. So smooth. No piece the same. Withstanding the passage of time, broken fragments battle the tides, the currents,…

Dad…and his FOUR ladies.

Dad…and his FOUR ladies.

He deals with four (very dramatic) women on a daily basis. He has learnt to respond to our emotions, moods and general female erratic behaviour. He is our first call when we get into some sort of ‘trouble’ (directional troubles, car crashes, opening jars, killing spiders, visa issues– you name it…he is there to help us). He has sat through endless hours of conversations about hair removal, eyebrow shaping, Sex and the City, fashion faux…

‘Me’ time.

‘Me’ time.

I am a big ambassador of 'me time'. Don't get me wrong,  I do love spending time with family and friends, meeting new people, 'getting to know' people (especially those of the male-variety)…it is just that ...I require a certain quota of 'me time' to function, to recalibrate, to re-energise. Weaving, reading, baking, running, dancing (usually in my room) are 'me time' activities in which I regularly engage. However, one of the most satisfying ways to spend…

Human-KIND.

This past week has been the best. I feel so lucky. Two strangers performed random acts of (weaving) kindness. They expected nothing in return. They had no agenda. They just renewed my faith in humanity. Unexpected. Pure. Generosity. Act of Kindness #1: The very talented designer, Samorn Sanixay generously gifted me aHUGE bag leather offcuts for me to work into my weaves (Honestly, do yourself a favour and check out Samorn's beautiful leather bags, clutches, scarves and homewares…

Staying in shape.

Staying in shape.

I’m not talking about the aussie 'lunchbox' savoury snacks - although I am definitely still a fan of a good Arnott’s ‘shape session’ (ie. eating an entire box of BBQ or Pizza Shapes -  I’ve never been a fan of  Chicken Crimpy). I am talking about actual shapes. Triangles. Polygons. Oblongs. Annulus (Yes, this is a ‘thing’ – it is the name for the ‘ring shape’ formed in the space between two concentric circles). Every…

Stop bugging me.

As I was drifting off to sleep a couple of nights ago, I heard this weird tapping noise... It was coming from..... 'up above'. I rolled over and turned my lamp on. I then looked UP. I stopped breathing for 2 milliseconds. I am NOT exaggerating, but over 150 small bright green bugs covered my ceiling. They were erratically jumping (hence, the weird noise). I repeat - they weren't flying,...just jumping around. My initial reaction…

Riding Solo

I have always loved amusement parks. Especially the rides. Growing up, I was blessed to have been able to visit Disneyland, Wonderland, Movie World and Wet n Wild. I used to force my sisters come along with me, until one of them was.... sick. This time, exactly a year ago, I went to a Charity event at Luna Park. It had been years since I had last been on a ride. Within 10 minutes of stepping…

Too much of a…Tassel.

Growing up I was obsessed with the dusty-pink tassel ropes that were tied around our curtains.

As I got older and learnt how to untie knots (to my mum's dismay), I'd untie the tassel ropes and walk around the house with them draped around my neck. Sounds slightly dangerous.....but all I wanted to do was 'wear' the tassels. Yes, I was a slightly strange kid. But, it just made me so happy. Secretly...one of the key reasons I…

Book Club.

After 6 years and many failed attempts. It has FINALLY happened. I am officially a member of a (great) book club. Honestly, I have been in search of a good book club for years. They are not that easy to come by. I even attempted to start one of my own...it didn't even last 15 minutes. There was this one time I got really mad/fustrated/close to tears (yes, my inner nerd came out) as I dutifully…
